And, we need a talented Engineering Lead to join our mission.

Wise relies heavily on data to drive our business decisions. Sitting inside the Marketing tribe, this team owns the collection and processing of analytics data from various parts of the business. This data ensures that all marketing teams can make decisions about investing in acquisition channels with confidence. Wise’s mission is to make money move around the world instantly, transparently, conveniently and eventually for free, and Marketing Platform is focused on reducing the cost of acquiring new users.

Our team is focused on marketing data and new user growth. As well as ensuring we know why new users are coming to Wise, and from where, we push and pull data from third parties such as Braze and AppsFlyer. We also own various services that are used to drive organic traffic, such as the ability to set up exchange rate alerts, and to create a new business alongside a Wise account in one onboarding flow. These services all align with our mission of reducing costs of acquiring new users.

As one of the few engineering teams in the marketing tribe, we work closely with stakeholders across the tribe to solve their problems with engineering. We are creating a platform to help marketing teams and analysts make more informed decisions by providing them with the data and tools they need. Even though we already have excellent data and growth products, as we grow, so does the demand for accurate, useful data. This is where you come in. You’ll help us improve the reliability of our data, add in new sources in ways that will unlock new opportunities inside of marketing. As well as building out our existing growth products to help attract new customers with minimal costs.

The Marketing Platform team is located at our London office. We’ve embraced hybrid working, where we have agreed within the team to work from the office on Fridays and for other occasional events such as quarterly planning sessions.

What does it take?

  • Being responsible for your team’s overall health and productivity
  • Helping your team make data-driven decisions by providing feedback on architecture and approach
  • Fostering an environment of autonomy where everyone is encouraged to  identify and prioritise customer problems and opportunities. 
  • Rolling your sleeves up and being involved in the entire process. Working closely with the team’s product manager and stakeholders to ensure the team is focusing on the right things
  • Having an overview of what’s happening across the organisation and thinking about engineering as a whole. 
  • Working together with other product, regional and marketing teams at Wise to achieve goals together

Is this you?

  • You’re passionate about building high quality products, working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
  • You have experience in leading, coaching and mentoring driven individuals
  • You enable your team to solve complex problems by helping to break them down into small iterative steps of incremental value
  • You’ve built and designed scalable and well-performing systems
  • You have experience in designing, deploying and maintaining clean RESTful APIs
  • You have experience with microservices architecture, asynchronous message queues and SQL databases.
  • You’ve worked with Java, preferably with Spring Boot
  • You have an understanding of the challenges engineers building and maintaining web and mobile applications face

Application Review

The first step is the application form. Here we ask you to include your CV detailing your past experience and achievements, a cover letter and a few questions related to the role.

Chat with Recruiter

In this round you will have a short chat with our recruiter to introduce you to Wise, our engineering philosophy and the role. We’ll get to know you a bit better – you won’t need to prepare anything in advance, but we do recommend finding out more about Wise if you haven’t already done so. You’ll also be able to ask us any questions you might have.

Pair Programming Interview

The goal of a pair-programming interview is to verify that a candidate can solve a “medium level” coding task within 40-45 minutes. In order to achieve it, we will use an interactive coding platform on HackerRank where the idea is for an interviewer to collaborate with the candidate and help him/her to solve a given task. Technical Interview

The Technical Interview round will usually comprise of a casual chat with the interviewers about some of your recent work that you are proud of, you could expect questions around justifying some of the choices you’ve made or discussing solutions for hypothetical problems that interviewers present. There will also be a coding round, a language-agnostic solution designing  and you will also have a chance to ask questions so you can find out more about Wise.

Product Interview

The product interview focuses on evaluating your ability to understand details of a problem and how to prioritise what to build when solving it. You can find out more about how we think about Product Engineering on this blog.

Final Interview

The final interview’s focus will be around the feedback you got from the previous interviewers  (which we will keep you informed about) and also with a bit of culture fit, motivation and your vision on how you see yourself working at Wise. The final interview usually takes 1 hour + will still involve some technical questions.
