Originally born in Europe in 2011, Wise launched in the US five years later in September 2016. We now have many thousands of active customers, moving millions of dollars in cross border volume and are growing rapidly YOY serving both consumers and businesses. Money transfer is the biggest part of our business (70% of volume) and we see big growth opportunities with our multi currency account (receive and hold money). We are early in our journey in a big market with a current market share of 4%. The US market is currently our 2nd biggest behind the UK.
Team
In the US we have over 600 people across all locations and functions with 100+ in our new full stack Austin office (product and operational teams) as well as 50 in New York (product and regulatory) and 450 in our operational hub in Tampa.
The current US Board members are Kristo Kaarmann (CEO), Sharon Anne Kean (Product Lead – International Expansion) and Harsh Sinha (CTO). Quarterly Board meetings are held in the New York office but can also be attended on a remote basis.
Requirement
We are looking for an Independent Non-Executive Director with strong regulatory experience in US markets who can support the development of our relationships with the national and state regulators in the US, and advise on how we build out our internal compliance policies and processes. We are also looking for someone who has a growth mindset, with either product or operational experience of payments and can provide strategic direction on where we invest our resources to best achieve continued growth.
