Financial Controller (Budapest)
As a financial institution moving billions of pounds of customer money in more than 70 countries, Wise must have bulletproof financials. We are now looking for a Group Controller to join our Accounting Team in Budapest. This role is a unique opportunity to have an impact on Wise’s mission by ensuring timely and accurate financial data as well as building mature processes and scalable control environment.
A bit about the role
As a Group Controller you will be overseeing the month-end closing process and related controls for a group of companies. Scope includes the following:
- ensuring various teams execute their financial closing tasks in an accurate and timely manner;
- identifying missing or insufficient processes and taking initiative to find solutions, in collaboration with other teams, both within and outside the Finance;
- owning numerous cross-team or cross functional projects aimed to make accounting processes more reliable, efficient and automated;
- developing and documenting detailed guidelines for month-end processes;
- ensuring compliance with internal and external guidelines and procedures;
- overseeing accounting control activities, which include review and analysis of accounts, driving investigations over reconciliation variances and working out a solution;
- participate in the external audit by replying to external auditors’ questions and information requests;
- actively participating in team planning, setting priorities in Group Controlling and taking ownership of planned initiatives;
- maintain relationships within the Finance Tribe and with all other stakeholders to ensure information sharing and properly manage expectations.
A bit about you:
Experience and skills:
- Significant experience (6-7 years) in either financial controlling, financial audit, financial advisory or management accounting. You have a thorough knowledge of IFRS.
- You are a self starter and can organise your own work
- Not afraid of challenges and making decisions, can work autonomously and take initiative
- Cooperative attitude and ability to manage deadlines
- You are a great communicator. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences. You’re able to persuade others and you aren’t afraid to challenge something when you need to.
- Keen to challenge people and drive changes – can think outside the box and provide long term vision
- (extra benefit) Professional finance qualification such as the ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
