Job Description

The team you will be working with: Cards Payin team

The Cards Payin team is responsible for some of the most critical services at Wise - we currently ensure more than a billion pounds in card payments is processed safely each month for customers who send, add money, or receive with Wise.Cards is a convenient, safe, and familiar payment method with global reach. It's our job to curate this payment flow, making it the best it can be for our customers. We own the whole Card Payin process, from the experience where customers input their card details, to the payment authorisation and fraud checks, to eventual settlement and reconciliation.
We’re on a mission to accept all genuine card payments first time from anyone using Wise’s payment products, and charge the lowest price possible. Come join us in this exciting journey of building the best payment experience ever for customers!

As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team’s technical solutions, including code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.

As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, mentoring and supporting people in your team.

Our main challenges are:

  • Building to the scale of one of the most used payment methods at Wise
  • Designing successful abstractions that can sit across the global nature of card payments
  • Providing our customers with the best payment experience possible and balancing that against reducing our exposure to fraudulent payments

What does it take?  

  • Experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and have worked with microservices architecture – this is essential
  • Experience leading, coaching and mentoring high performing teams, building development plans and setting personal goals for engineers in your teams
  • Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
  • Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems
  • Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
  • A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
